Verizon Phone Upgrade: Everything You Should Know

Upgrade your Phone at Victra - Verizon Wireless Authorized Retailer

A Verizon phone upgrade lets you replace your current device with a new one on your Verizon account line. If your phone isn’t performing like it used to (or just eyeing the latest iPhone or Galaxy), you may be eligible to upgrade.

When it comes to the best way to upgrade a phone at Verizon, you have two viable options: pay the full price of a new phone anytime, or upgrade through a 36-month device payment plan.

If you aren’t sure about your Verizon upgrade eligibility or have questions about the process, below, we’ll walk you through everything you need to know about upgrades and how to find the perfect phone.

How Does a Verizon Phone Upgrade Work?

A Verizon phone upgrade allows you to replace your current device with a new one while keeping your existing number. It doesn’t matter if you’re looking to improve performance or take advantage of a promotional deal, Verizon offers flexible upgrade options to keep your devices as current as possible.

As mentioned above, you can either pay for your new phone outright or use a 36-month device payment plan if your current phone meets Verizon upgrade eligibility requirements.

To begin the process, you must see if you can upgrade your Verizon phone through your account.

The best way to upgrade a phone at Verizon is to open your Verizon account and navigate to the Device Overview page in My Verizon. Scroll down to the device you want to upgrade. “Upgrade Now” will appear next to any eligible devices. Tap Upgrade Now and follow the prompts.

Once completed, your new phone will ship to your address or be ready for in-store pickup, and your existing service will seamlessly transfer to the new device.

Verizon Upgrade Eligibility: Do I Qualify?

Unfortunately, not every device or account qualifies for a Verizon phone upgrade. That’s why it’s important to understand the criteria before starting the process.

To upgrade your Verizon phone, your device must meet specific payment and condition requirements, and your account cannot be past due. This typically means your current device is at least 30 days old, more than 50% paid off, and in good working condition, free of major damage or hardware issues.

You may be able to upgrade a mobile device after as little as thirty days of use, provided you have paid at least fifty percent of the retail price of the device and it’s in good working order with little to no damage.

If you want to check the eligibility of your mobile device without logging into your account, dial #UPG on the device you want to replace. You’ll receive a text message informing you of the device’s eligibility. If you prefer, you can drop by any Victra retail store, and our staff will help you discover your upgrade options.

How Much Does It Cost to Upgrade Your Phone at Verizon?

Upgrading your Verizon phone typically involves a one-time $35 upgrade fee, applicable whether you purchase your new device outright or opt for the payment plan.

The total cost of your upgrade will depend on the retail price of the new device and any applicable promotions or trade-in credits. For example, Verizon frequently offers trade-in deals that provide up to $1,000 off select smartphones when you trade in an eligible device and activate a qualifying plan.

To determine your exact upgrade cost, it’s best to check your account for current offers and eligibility.

How to Find the Right Verizon Phone Upgrade for You

Choosing between iOS and Android can feel like picking a side in a never-ending tech debate. But the truth is, the best operating system is the one that fits your lifestyle and preferences.

Apple’s iOS system is ideal for those who want a reliable, easy-to-use phone. An iPhone offers a straightforward, intuitive interface that’s reliable and consistent from one OS version to the next.

With new models like the iPhone 16 series coming out regularly, it’s possible to upgrade your phone frequently. This is perfect for those who must have the latest tech.

On the other hand, Android devices are better suited for those who like to customize their devices from top to bottom. You can personalize home pages with widgets, change fonts, and add live wallpapers that make you smile whenever you open your phone.

Android is compatible with Google’s suite of apps and services, so if you use these frequently, you should consider upgrading to an Android like the newest Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra.

When considering a Verizon phone upgrade, consider your current ecosystem, device preferences, and how you use your phone daily. Whether you’re leaning towards the latest iPhone or a top-tier Samsung Galaxy, Verizon offers a range of options to suit your needs, all of which Victra has for sale.

Transferring Your Verizon Phone Upgrade to Another Device

If your device is eligible for an upgrade but you’re happy with it, you can transfer the upgrade to another device on your plan.

To do so, log in to My Verizon and go to the Upgrade Device page. Select the eligible device and click Transfer Upgrade.

Next, enter the mobile number of the device you want to upgrade. This will transfer your device’s eligibility to that line. Go to the device whose mobile number you just entered, click Next, and follow the instructions to upgrade to the new device.

However, remember that once you transfer upgrade eligibility to a different device, your current device will no longer be eligible for an upgrade, so be sure you want to make the transfer.
