Award Season: The Red Carpet Experience
Table of Contents
Roll out the red carpet, because Hollywood award season is in full swing. From the Oscars to the SAG Awards, celebrities and fans are gearing up for moments to remember. Although award ceremonies may have scaled back during the pandemic, there are plenty of artists to celebrate and many ways to enjoy the programs from home.
Golden Globe Awards
The first Golden Globe Awards took place in 1944 at 20th Century Fox, and since then, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association has been awarding distinguished performances in film and television. There are 25 categories in which achievements are recognized, and the most prominent awards are for best motion picture, best actor and best actress.
Although the Golden Globe Awards are usually known for entertaining hosts and buzzworthy celebrity appearances, the 2022 event looked a bit different. After decades of airing on NBC, the show went untelevised, but that didn’t take away from recognizing the best performances. On January 9th, the winners were announced on Twitter. While no one got glammed up, everyone had a chance to tweet celebrations for the nominees and winners.
Oscars
The coveted award of the Oscar, that golden statue that so many kids imagine holding against their dream-filled hearts as they deliver a dramatic acceptance speech into the bathroom mirror. Winning an Oscar is what dreams are made of, and on February 8th, the nominees were announced, breaking records and barriers.
For instance, the first deaf man to earn an acting nomination, Troy Kotsur was nominated for his role in “CODA.” Also, the second female cinematographer to be nominated for an Oscar, Ari Wegner was recognized for her work on “The Power of the Dog.” And to top off the record-breaking nods, Denzel Washington is now the most nominated Black actor in history after being added to the nominee list for best actor in “The Tragedy of Macbeth.”
The excitement of the list of nominees will continue until the 94th Academy Awards airs on Sunday, March 27th. You might be wondering, “Why such a long wait?” Well, the show was originally set for February 27th but was delayed for unknown reasons. The show airs at 8 p.m. ET on ABC. If you’re planning to catch the action on a streaming service, don’t forget to check that your home internet is reliable. Options like 5G Home Internet and Verizon’s Fios Internet service will ensure you have ultra-fast, award-winning streaming.
Screen Actors Guild Awards
The 28th annual Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards are right around the corner on Sunday, February 27th at 8 p.m. ET on TNT and TBS. Beloved for their simplicity and warmth, this award show kicked off in 1995 and is the only award show that exclusively honors performers in film and television. You can even get in on the award action with your device by following #SAGAWARDS on social media to stay up to date on all related news. Critics Choice Awards
The Critics Choice Association announced the date for the 2022 award show, which will take place on Sunday, March 13th on TBS and the CW at 7 p.m. ET. Actor Taye Diggs has hosted for the past three years and will return to the stage with comedian Nicole Byer for a dynamic co-hosting experience. If you’re wondering who exactly the “critics” are that vote for these performers, well it comes down to members of the Broadcast Film Journalists Assn. (BFJA) and Broadcast Television Journalists Assn. (BTJA). Did we mention that there are over 500 members within these committees? That’s a lot of votes, and we can’t wait to see who takes home the trophies. What we love about this award show is that it not only features performers, but it highlights technical and behind-the-scenes pros as well.
Award season is the time of year where we can all feel like stars! Plus, it’s a great way to enjoy time with the entire family. Consider getting the little ones involved by dressing up in your
Hollywood glam attire to get in the spirit and make an event of it. Or, you can play games with friends or family by voting on the nominees to see who guesses correctly. Another way to celebrate is by simply preparing movie-inspired snacks like gourmet popcorn and specialty cocktails or mocktails. The list of ways to celebrate award show season with those you love is endless. Be sure to check on your home internet and devices to ensure a perfectly smooth streaming award experience.
