Elevate Your Mobile Phone Photography on World Photo Day

Table of Contents

In today’s society, every moment seems to demand its own snapshot. From capturing your favorite family celebrations to letting the camera dine first at the newest Instagram-worthy restaurant, it’s become second nature to grab these memories on our smartphones. But, whether you’re a budding enthusiast or a seasoned pro, it can be a challenge capturing the right light or navigating the ins and outs of manual mode. In honor of World Photo Day on Saturday, August 19, we’re sharing our tips and tricks that will help you unlock the potential of your pocket-sized lens. Remember, pics or it didn’t happen!

iPhone Tips:

Adjust Exposure Manually: Tap on your screen while in the Camera app to adjust the exposure manually. Swipe up or down to make the image brighter or darker. This can be particularly helpful in situations where the camera’s auto-exposure might not capture the scene as you want.

Experiment with Portrait Mode: iPhones with dual or triple cameras offer Portrait Mode, which adds a beautiful depth-of-field effect to your photos, making the subject stand out while blurring the background. Be sure to experiment with different lighting effects in this mode as well.

Shoot in RAW: If you’re using third-party camera apps, consider shooting in RAW format for more flexibility during editing. This is available on newer iPhone models.

Use Smart HDR: iPhones often have Smart HDR (High Dynamic Range) enabled by default. This feature helps capture better details in both the shadows and highlights of your photos, especially in challenging lighting conditions.

Our preferred Apple devices include: iPhone 14 Pro, iPhone 14 Pro Max, iPhone 14 Plus, Apple iPhone SE

Samsung Tips:

Switch Pro Camera Lenses: Samsung’s smartphones with multiple camera lenses allow you to switch between different focal lengths. Use the ultrawide or telephoto lens for variety in your shots.

Select Pro Mode: Samsung smartphones often come with a Pro mode that allows you to manually control settings like ISO, shutter speed, and focus. This is great for achieving specific creative effects.

Automatically Adjust Settings with Scene Optimizer: Many Samsung phones come with a Scene Optimizer that automatically adjusts settings based on the type of scene you’re capturing, like landscapes or food. This can help enhance your photos without manual adjustments.

Shoot in Single Take Mode: This mode captures multiple types of media (photos, videos, and GIFs) with just one click. It’s a handy way to ensure you don’t miss any important moment. To activate, swipe left from the main camera screen. The camera will simultaneously capture a variety of shots and videos, ultimately suggesting the optimal snapshot for your consideration.

Our preferred Samsung devices include: Samsung Galaxy ZFold 5, Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra, Samsung Galaxy A53 5G

These are just a few tips to maximize your smartphone photography. We encourage you to experiment with these features and other settings and elements to find your personal style and get the best results.  Pick up the right device for you at your local Verizon Victra store. We look forward to helping you find the best device to take your photography to the next level!
