For training, Apple rates up to 18 hours of standard workout tracking and up to 45 hours with Max Extended Workout tracking — enough for an ultra, a long course or a weekend without a charger. Fast charging turns 15 minutes into up to 18 hours of use, which covers the gap between getting back and going out again.
When you are past coverage, Ultra 4 reaches a satellite directly: Emergency SOS to call for help, Messages to tell someone you are fine, and Find My to share where you are. Backtrack retraces the route you walked in. None of it depends on your iPhone being in your pocket.
Redesigned optical and electrical sensors with larger, more power-efficient green LEDs give Ultra 4 what Apple calls the most accurate heart rate sensing in a wearable. Background heart rate is read every five seconds — 60 times more often than Ultra 3 — and HRV as frequently as every five minutes, 24 times more often. The ECG app, blood oxygen, hypertension notifications and sleep apnea detection run on top of it, and a Readiness score tells you what today has in it.
The case is 49mm aerospace-grade titanium in Natural or Black, and the wide-angle Always-On Retina display reaches up to 3000 nits so it stays readable in direct sun. The customisable Action button starts a workout or a dive without hunting through menus, and Oceanic+ turns the watch into a dive computer. Siri AI and Audio Intelligence come along too.
