5G Nationwide vs 5G Ultra Wideband: What’s the Difference?

5G Nationwide vs 5G Ultra Wideband

5G is the latest technology standard for broadband cellular communications, and a much-anticipated improvement over existing 4G and 4G LTE networks. Promising significantly faster data transfer speeds, little to no lag, and the ability to handle enormous amounts of data, 5G is poised to revolutionize everything from entertainment to how we manage and run smart cities. 5G is the future of telecommunications and smart technology.

Verizon 5G coverage includes the Verizon 5G Nationwide and 5G Ultra Wideband networks. To select the 5G plan that’s right for you, it’s important to know the difference between these two networks and where they overlap. It’s equally important to know what each service can do for you, and to understand just how fast 5G is compared to 4G networks. We’ll answer these questions here.

What is 5G Nationwide?

5G Nationwide combines lower spectrum 5G with Verizon’s well-established 4G LTE network. 5G Nationwide uses a new antenna technology called Dynamic Spectrum Sharing to run 4G LTE and 5G in the same frequency band. This allows you to use 5G in areas where the service is available, and seamlessly switch to 4G LTE or 4G in areas without the higher-speed service.

What is 5G Ultra Wideband?

5G Ultra Wideband uses high-band, ultra-wide mmWave spectrum 5G to deliver the fastest possible 5G speeds. With 5G Ultra Wideband, you’ll experience near-zero lag, allowing you to play games, stream high-definition movies, make video calls, and use augmented reality in near-real time.

The potential of 5G Ultra Wideband is extraordinary. Capable of handling stadiums full of phone users without appreciably slowing local data transfers, 5G Ultra Wideband is poised to revolutionize healthcare, public works, autonomous vehicles, smart homes, entertainment, and the retail experience.

The difference between 5G Ultra Wideband and Verizon Nationwide 5G is one of both speed and location. 5G nationwide has fast, reliable speeds with a larger service area than 5G Ultra Wideband, but Ultra Wideband is faster.

This does not mean you’re limited to specific locations with 5G Ultra Wideband. As you leave areas with Ultra Wideband coverage you’ll automatically switch to 5G Nationwide, which will offer either low-band 5G, 4G, or 4G LTE depending on your location.

Where is 5G Nationwide Available?

At present, Verizon 5G coverage offers 5G nationwide in most of the country, with coverage in over 2,700 cities as well as rural areas.

Widespread adoption of Ultra Wideband is ongoing but will take time to implement. At present, 5G Ultra Wideband is only available in parts of select cities. To check if your service area offers Ultra Wideband, check the 5G coverage map.

Verizon is committed to increasing 5G coverage over the coming months and years, eventually supplanting 4G in most areas and providing people with rapid, reliable, and revolutionary coverage.

Verizon 5G Ultra Wideband Speeds

Much has been made of the difference between 5G and 4G, but how fast is 5G in comparison with older generation systems? Verizon 5G Ultra Wideband offers peak download speeds of more than 4 Gbps compared to average 4G speeds of 30 to 35 Mbps. Speeds that fast allow a 4K definition movie to download in seconds.

5G upload speeds are an equally impressive 200 Mbps or higher, providing super low latency with no noticeable time spent buffering. With Verizon 5G coverage, lag is a thing of the past.
